Expert tips for Planting and Growing
Sugar snap peas are legumes with plump pods and round peas within. Unlike some garden peas, the pods are edible, sweet and crunchy. No shucking required!
Be sure to sow seeds in a space that can fit a trellis or wire fence. Sugar snap peas don't need much hands-on help, but they do need a vertical structure to climb.

Some vining veggies, such as cucumbers, winter squash, and sugar snap peas, sprout long tendrils that grab onto nearby structures to aid the plant in its upward journey.
All parts of the sugar snap pea plant are edible, including the pods, tendrils, leaves, and flowers. Young offshoots from the main plant make lovely garnishes.
Sugar snaps are a delicious way to kick off the growing season, ahead of tomatoes, peppers, cukes, and other summer favorites. Don't miss our complete growing guide on the blog!
